Lake Michigan Bluff Area The Ozaukee County lakeshore is 25 miles long and ranges from low beaches to high, erosion-prone bluffs. Coastal erosion is a natural, dynamic process that affects how we can utilize and possibly preserve the bluff areas along Lake Michigan.

The LMSA has produced this guideline to encourage “good practices” for the protection of the Lake Michigan shoreline bluff from manmade erosion risks. It is our objective to provide our members with the factors that can cause and often exacerbate bluff erosional processes.

This story map describes bluff erosion at Miami Park, Michigan during high water lake levels of 2019 - 2021, and presents the usefulness of new remote sensing techniques for monitoring coastal bluff erosion.
