Feb 2, 2017 · Try this 16.0-mile loop trail near Hume, California. Generally considered a challenging route. This is a popular trail for backpacking, fishing, and hiking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are April through October. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.

The Route crosses the Boundary line Between Jennie Lakes Wilderness and Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Parks at JO Pass on the southern part of the loop, and at the pass west of Sugarloaf Creek on Belle Canyon trail on the north side of the loop. The route covers 7 different high country lakes with good fishing.

Start Location: Big Meadow Winter Trailhead. Overall Description: Two alpine lake loop with epic scenery and lots of fun river crossings along the way. Jennie Lake is at 9,024 ft elevation and Weaver Lake is at 8,712.

Once you begin your hike you start with some tough climbing up the west slope of Shell Mountain where you come to the Jennie Lake/Weaver Lake junction. You will want to take the trail toward Jennie Lake and you soon enter the Jennie Lakes Wilderness.

The first night you will arrive at Jennie Lake, a beautiful and remote lake where you won’t find any day trippers. Be prepared to camp overnight and cook with a portable stove, as there are no accommodations here!

This trail leads you into the heart of the Jennie Lakes Wilderness, linking you to the Weaver Lake Trail, JO Pass, Jennie Lake and south into Sequoia National Park towards the Lodgepole area. It is about 4 miles from the junction up to the pass itself.

To Jennie Lake: beginning the same as the hike up to Weaver Lake, this very popular trail turns south/southeast at the junction with the Weaver Lake Trail. It is about 6.5 miles to Jennie Lake cutting slowly around Shell Mountain and then up and down either side of Poop Out Pass.
