Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor said Tuesday that she has faith federal court orders will be honored in the United States amid a roiling debate over President Donald Trump’s commitment to following judicial rulings that have put some of his policies on hold.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor said Tuesday that court decisions “stand whether one particular person chooses to abide by them or not,” days after two of President Donald Trump’s top lieutenants attacked rulings that halted some of his contentious executive orders.

Rather than take judges out of the national debate over abortion, as the 2022 Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe V. Wade promised to do, that ruling has unleashed a new wave of legal questions – including how to settle disputes between the states about whether their abortion laws can be applied outside their borders.
