In a tightly-played defensive game that had the feel of a playoff matchup, the physical play was ratcheted up by each team. There were 58 combined hits, two fights, numerous post-whistle skirmishes and plenty of ill will.

During his introduction as the newest member of the Florida Panthers, defenseman Seth Jones made an honest confession, taking a jab at Connor Bedard, Kyle Davidson, and the entire Chicago Blackhawks organization.

Ryan Donato was at the right place at the right time on Wednesday night, as has been the case for much of this 2024-25 season. The play looked like it would be whistled down for icing after a long stretch pass from the Chicago end hit Artem Zub’s skate before ricocheting into the Ottawa end.

Alex Ovechkin scored his 885th career goal with 9:32 remaining in the third period and Tom Wilson netted the game-winner with 53 seconds left in overtime as the visiting Washington Capitals rallied for a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers on Wednesday.

The Rangers had a lead with less than 10 minutes to play against the Eastern Conference-leading Capitals and let it slip through their fingers. The resulting 3-2 overtime loss on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden prevented their first three-game winning streak since mid-November.

This week, some teams have jumped ahead of the trade deadline. Yesterday, there was a big trade between the Florida Panthers and the Chicago Blackhawks.
