South Korea are said to be in talks with Washington amid tariffs claims from Donald Trump during his speech to Congress.

U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized South Korea for imposing more unfair tariffs on American products than China. The President also criticized the country for issuing subsidies to foreign chipmakers like Samsung Electronics Co.

As U.S. allies fear President Trump may begin to cut age-old ties, South Korea reconsiders becoming a nuclear power.

The presentation came about 12 hours after President Trump pulled the trigger on a 25% tariff for products coming in from Canada and Mexico, plus 10% added to Chinese imports for a 20% total tariff. Current production for North America is about 63,900 vehicles a day, with 41,700 in the US, 17,600 in Mexico, and 4,600 in Canada.

In Asia, China, Vietnam, Japan, and Taiwan have the largest trade surpluses with the U.S., according to a recent U.S. Treasury report. Some Asian economies also face risks from reciprocal tariffs, as President Trump directs plans for counter-tariffs on countries that impose higher tariffs on U.
