A dangerous snow squall was located along a line extending from north of Pittsfield to Ashland, moving east at 60 mph. The squall is producing intense bursts of heavy snow, gusty winds, and visibility dropping to less than a quarter mile,

TIMING OF SNOW: Snow arrives late morning for most of Maine, quickly picking up in intensity. Heavy snowfall is likely early to mid afternoon, gradually tapering off heading into the evening. Snow will likely end as some freezing drizzle or sleet, an icy glaze is likely on top of the snow. All precipitation should be mostly over by 9pm.

Maine's Total Weather is timing out the snowstorm, which will also bring some fleet and freezing rain during the evening commute.

Initially, it will be cold enough for all snow. Snow begins in southern and western Maine between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. In central and eastern Maine, it’s a later arrival, starting between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The steadiest snow will fall during the afternoon and early evening.

Areas west of I-495 to Pittsfield will see more snow than any other precipitation type. New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine will welcome all snow from this system.

A storm that brought heavy snowfall early Thursday afternoon is the latest in a string of winter storms to impact Maine.
