The last formal survey conducted in the Northern Lower Peninsula was in 2019. The idea to hold the survey was not triggered by any specific sightings or uptick in reports.

The DNR is asking for help from the community to conduct a survey to detect the presence of gray wolves in the northern part of the Lower Peninsula.

Before someone shot and killed a wolf in Southwest Michigan last year, officials had no reason to believe any had established in the Lower Peninsula. The DNR is now looking for proof.
