Simmons and the Brooklyn Nets are working on a potential contract buyout, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported after the NBA’s trade deadline on Thursday afternoon. It’s unclear when that buyout will be finalized, but the three-time All-Star is expected to be a free agent in the near future.

With the NBA trade deadline passed, it’s now on to the buyout market. Ben Simmons could very well be on it. The Nets have been speaking with Simmons about a potential buyout, and the former All-Star is expected to have robust options to pick from if an agreement is reached and he becomes a free agent.

There were rumblings that veterans such as Cam Johnson, Nic Claxton and Day’Ron Sharpe could be on the move, but no deals were made, and all three remain in Brooklyn for now.
