Notre Dame has picked up a third transfer portal pick up today with former USC defensive tackle Elijah Hughes announcing his commitment to the Fighting Irish. Hughes is rare in that he is an undergraduate transfer that has two seasons of eligibility remaining after playing his first two seasons with the Trojans.

The most sought-after players in the portal typically fly off the shelves. That puts a premium on decision-making for Irish coach Marcus Freeman and Co.

Notre Dame football is looking at some players in the transfer portal. Quarterback is one position where things might be covered.

New Jersey defensive lineman Owen Wafle committed to Notre Dame football in May of 2022, and kept his verbal until almost a year later. The 6-foot, 2-inch and almost 300-pound lineman would decommit from the Irish and about three weeks later would commit to Michigan. Wafle signed with the Wolverines, but didn’t see the field this fall.

While that could be what happens, Colin Cowherd believes that that might not be the case. The Fox Sports 1 host said on Sunday that he has heard rumors that the Irish will be bringing in a huge name at quarterback following Notre Dame’s run in the College Football Playoff.
