Los Angeles, CA – On Thursday, Los Angeles DA Nathan Hochman announced the appointment of Michael Gennaco as special prosecutor tasked with tackling police misconduct cases. Gennaco, who has served as police auditor for the city of Davis since 2019, is considered among the nation’s foremost experts in civil rights and police misconduct cases.

Michael Gennaco, a former federal prosecutor with decades of experience reviewing police use-of-force cases, will serve as the special prosecutor overseeing two high-profile shooting cases.

The L.A. County Board of Supervisors recently approved the hiring of a new special prosecutor to investigate police misconduct cases. This decision comes less than a month after District Attorney Nathan Hochman moved to remove the person his predecessor had appointed for the role.
